WAYS TO GET BEES
Buy, inherit, catch or remove
BACKYARD WAY
In general we like the backyard way, learn by doing it way.
The backyard way could look like this. Buy some scrap wood, build a simple hive and frames. Place the hive out to catch some bees or do a removal. Once you have bees in the hive some honey could be expected... eventually. Sounds simple? YES, BUT
Because our bee species is so aggressive by nature, we don't recommend anyone to just watch a few internet videos and just go with it. Obtaining the bees could sometimes be easier than keeping bees, and you may think what did I get myself into. Without proper training and a good understanding of how bees work, keeping bees can end up only costing more than it benefits you.

If you are thinking of doing beekeeping please keep the theft factor in mind!
South Africa has an incurable disease called Theft, and if you think "oh shame, people break the hives to eat"... no, it's all about making beer.
If you are the lazy type that thinks, "I am going to train someone else to sweat for my honey", be extremely thoughtful that you don't train a silent thief that creates havoc for other beekeepers also. This applies mostly to farming areas.
To sum it up. Do a course if you don't know anyone with years of proper experience. Only taking a few frames of honey each year from a hive is most likely not proper experience. MOST people have a very uneducated understanding of beekeeping and unfortunately some of them are beekeepers.
